A university professor who invited the captain of the capsized Costa Concordia to speak at a criminology seminar has been referred to an ethics committee.

Vincenzo Mastronardi from Rome’s La Sapienza University is said to have called in Francesco Schettino to help reconstruct the disaster.

Thirty-two people died after the Costa Concordia hit rocks in January 2012.

Schettino is on trial for manslaughter. He is
also accused of causing the incident and abandoning the 114,500-tonne luxury liner.
