Robbers often disguise themselves to pull off a heist, but a man in Wilmington, California got away with stealing five thousand dollars disguised as a blind veteran.

The man gained the trust of the desk clerk and robbed a check cashing business after posing as a blind veteran.

Los Angeles Police Department Detective Kevin Reynolds is quoted as saying: “This is very unusual. This isn’t the type of ruse that you would expect to see on a robbery.”

While pretending to be blind, the thief had the clerk fill out paperwork under a fake name, and asked her for bottles of water repeatedly.

The clerk opened the door of the back room to give the man a bottle of water, and that’s when he pulled out a gun and demanded that she open the safe.

A regular customer came into the store in the middle of the robbery, and the clerk was ordered to help them while being held at gunpoint from a distance.

After the customer left, the clerk emptied the safe, and the robber demanded that she also open the cash drawers.

According to the clerk, the man apologized repeatedly during the robbery, explaining that he had children to feed.
