European leaders mark World War One centenary

3 years ago40 views

European leaders gathered in Belgium, paying tribute to the millions who died in the first world war.

Politicians and royalty from 83 countries came here to mark the day German troops invaded Belgium.

British Prime Minister Cameron and Prince William laid wreaths at a twilight ceremony in St Symphorien military cemetery here in Mons.

They were accompanied by Germany's President and the Belgium Prince Philippe. Once enemies, now standing united.

A lone bugler played the Last Post, ending the day of ceremonies commemorating 100 years since the UK entered World War One in 1914.

And lanterns were placed with the wreaths to remember the conflict that ended in 1918 and became known as the Great War.
