Deadly earthquake hits China

A powerful earthquake has struck southwestern China, killing at least 150 people according to local media reports.

The US Geological Survey has measured the magnitude of the quake at 6.3, impacting at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Houses and power lines have been downed, with over 180 people thought to have been injured.

The epicentre of the quake was in Ludian county, in Yunnan province. It is being reported as the strongest to hit the region in 14 years.
