Politicians in the United States are willing to “sacrifice thousands of Palestinian lives” to please the powerful Israel lobby and get re-elected, says a peace activist and public speaker in Denver, Colorado.
“Being re-elected and catering to large lobby groups is more important for politicians than the live of thousands of human beings,” said Richard Forer, author of 'Breakthrough: Transforming Fear into Compassion”.
“They are willing to sacrifice the lives of hundreds of Palestinian children and over a thousand civilians...just so that they get re-elected,” Forer told Press TV on Thursday.
Forer said the reason most Americans support Israel is because they are “ignorant” and “don’t have any understanding of what is going on or any knowledge; they never studied the history and the [US] media never provides real context.”
Israeli warplanes have been carrying out incessant airstrikes against the blockaded coastal territory since July 8. On July 17, thousands of Israeli soldiers launched a ground invasion into the densely-populated strip.
Some 1,370 Palestinians have been killed, including women and children, and thousands others injured by the Israeli regime’s offensive against the coastal enclave despite pressure from the international community. The United Nations says over 80 percent of the fatalities in Gaza have been civilians.
The military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, has been firing retaliatory rockets, hitting Israeli cities and killing dozens of its soldiers.
Forer accused the US government of aiding Israel by providing it with weapons so it can “commit genocide and get rid of enough of the people so there’s no more resistance.”
