A man in St. Paul, Minnesota is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a mother and her 7-month-old child from a blaze. At approximately 8 P.M. on Monday night, the fire broke out in a duplex.
At that time, Richard Johann was about a block away from the scene when he spotted the smoke. Johann ran towards the home and went right for an open window.
He pushed through a screen and pulled the blinds back. He witnessed a mother and a baby inside.
Reportedly, the woman was unaware of the fire so Johann informed her and told her to get out of the house. The mom handed him the baby and another person ran to take the infant so Johann could focus on getting the mom out.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The duplex however is thought to be a total loss.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Johann commented “Fortunately, things happened the way they did, and everybody's safe. You can replace this house and everything in it, but you know the lives, you can't.”
Investigators believe the fire was intentionally set and are asking the public for help in finding the arsonists.
