Hundreds feared dead after landside buries Indian village

The first of the bodies was recovered soon after rescue workers arrived.
Unrelenting rain had triggered a landslide that buried the village of Ambegaon in western India.
More than 70 homes were engulfed. The village is home to more than 700 people.
Many are believed to be dead and many others trapped awaiting rescue.
Friends and family of the victims are still in shock.
(SOUNDBITE) VISITOR TO THE VILLAGE, RANADEEP GOKHALE, SAYING:
"I had come to visit my relatives. I often come here. When I came I discovered that the entire village had been destroyed."
Landslides are common in the area at this time of year.
Monsoon season brings heavy rains. Deforestation has left local populations vulnerable.
Rescue workers here say they face a daunting task as the death toll continues to rise.
