62-year-old Steve Adsley lives alone in a condominium, so when he fell down in the bathroom and had a stroke, no one was around to help him.

The stroke rendered him immobile, and the nearest phone was in another room.

The only water in reach was from the toilet bowl, which he scooped out and drank to stay alive.

After four days, he ran out of water and thought that he was going to die.

Adsley said that thinking about his children gave him the psychological strength to stay alive.

He shouted for help, and finally after seven days, one of his neighbors heard his screams and came to the rescue.

He is quoted as saying that what he learned from the experience is: “You're a lot tougher than you think. Hang in there. You can survive almost anything if you put your mind to it.”

After his neighbor called for help, the man was taken to the Holy Family hospital in Vancouver, where he is reportedly in stable condition after being treated for dehydration and urine burns.
