ONLINE MOVEMENT DEMANDS PEACE IN GAZA
As fighting between Hamas and Israel intensifies, Jewish and Arab web users have started an online campaign under the #Jews and Arabs Refuse to be Enemies hashtag, calling for peace in Gaza.
Many have posted to Twitter with messages and photographs, urging an end to the conflict in Gaza. The photos feature interfaith couples or people of Israeli and Palestinian descent holding signs saying it is possible to live in peace; that Jews and Arabs do not have to be enemies, that love is bigger than war.
Campaigning for peace is also underway on Facebook with a dedicated Facebook group. The page currently has a little over 3,500 likes, and encourages netizens the world over to speak out against the conflict, and demand peace in Gaza.
And while the online campaign has garnered strong support, it has also drawn some criticism. This Twitter user for example says it depoliticizes the conflict, simplifying it as petty racial tensions. The instigators of the movement have posted a response via Facebook saying dialogue and non-violent action are the best tools for bringing peace to the region.
BEATING OF SYRIAN CHILD IN LEBANON CAPTURED ON VIDEO
In this video we hear a Lebanese adult encouraging his child, aged five or six to beat a Syrian boy who is slightly older. "Hit him harder, don`t be scared" he says… the Lebanese child obeys and hits his victim with a stick before using his fists.
