Ukrainians pay tribute to passengers killed in Malaysia Airlines crash

Hundreds of Ukrainians gathered outside the Malaysian and Netherlands embassies in Kyiv on Thursday evening to light candles and lay flowers for the more than 290 people who lost their lives when Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crashed.
They came to pay tribute to those who died and to show their solidarity and outrage that so may people had lost their lives on Ukrainian soil.
One woman said: “I can’t believe it. I can’t believe how cynical a person can be to destroy people’s lives – not only the lives of those who died, but also the lives of their families. It’s terrible.”
Another man said the government needed to act: “People are dying. We’re waiting for a response. We needed it a day before yesterday, not tomorrow. Can’t you see how many Ukrainian soldiers have died, how many people died at Maidan, and now foreigners have died”.
Euronews correspondent in Kyiv, Maria Korenyuk, says Ukrainians are concerned about whether it will be possible to have a transparent investigation and a proper search operation as the territory where the aircraft crashed is still in the grip of fighting between Ukrainian soldiers and rebel separatists.
