JCPenney has placed mannequins inspired by real people in the windows of its Manhattan Mall store.

They were originally made as part of the Today Show’s ‘love your selfie’ series.

5 people of varying body types were featured on the program and a company based in Colorado produced their likenesses.

One of the inspirations is a double leg amputee and another is a man with dwarfism.

There is also a figure modeled after a woman in a wheelchair.

The remaining two are based on the real life dimensions of a plus sized mom and a 6-foot-1 basketball player.

The senior vice president of marketing for JCPenney said of the company’s choice to use the mannequins, "We felt like this was a great opportunity to really make sure we were helping showcase the important subject of body image."

They’re being displayed in conjunction with the retailer’s ‘When it fits you feel it’ campaign and will remain in the windows until August.

Consumer response has already been quite favorable.

One shopper said, "I think it's time that stores embrace the fact that we're all different. We come in all different sizes, heights, weights."
