Negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 over Tehran’s nuclear program is underway in the Austrian capital of Vienna.
Foreign Ministers from France, Germany, and Britain along with US Secretary of State John Kerry have arrived in Vienna to discuss key issues regarding Iran's nuclear energy program. They’ve met at this hotel right behind me for the discussions. Meetings were held between the ministers for hours before British Foreign Minister William Hauge told us there was no breakthrough on Iran's nuclear energy program. Iran says that it's nuclear energy program is for peaceful purposes only. Foreign Minister Zarif, who is spearheading negotiations, said Tehran has no interest in developing a nuclear weapon. Zarif also called on world leaders to take advantage of a chance to make history. But, the US Secretary of State says there are differences in current talks with Iran. Permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are involved in marathon talks on a comprehensive nuclear agreement before last November’s interim deal expires on July 20. If no agreement is reached they can either end negotiations claiming there is no way forward or extend the deadline for up to another 6 months.
