A clothing store employee in Morristown recently found and returned a diamond worth $40,000. Prior to the discovery, Barbara Warnshuis, who works at Christopher and Banks inside College Square Mall, was approached by a distraught customer who lost the gem.

The woman said the ring prongs came loose and that the diamond had been a gift from her husband. Warnshuis sympathized with the customer and immediately started looking for it.

She crawled around on the floor before closing, but nothing turned up. The following day, Warnshuis was just about to turn off the lights at the end of the night when something caught her eye.

At first, she thought it was a sequin on the floor but a close inspection revealed it was the three-and-a-half carat diamond. Warnshuis took it to a jeweler to make sure it was authentic and learned it's worth about $40,000.

She quickly called up the customer to confirm her beloved diamond had been found and could be picked up. She said the woman was so happy she burst into tears.
