An abandoned dog in Northern California landed in the right hands. On July 3rd, Shannon Bettencourt had just gotten out of work at the Chill Wine Bar in downtown Benicia when she saw the pooch standing by a tree.
She noticed the dog was covered in ink. Someone wrote on her fur with permanent marker with the word ‘free’ on both of her sides and another phrase noting ‘I need a home’ on her forehead.
Bettencourt said the canine was scared, whimpering and shaking. She approached her and knew the pooch was coming with her.
Bettencourt took the dog home to her fiancée, Chris Franco. Now, they’re caring for the sweet pooch called ‘Libby’, which is short for Liberty.
Bettencourt hopes to formally adopt Libby this week. The Benicia Police Department says whoever is responsible for abandoning her may face charges.
