Survivors of the ISIL insurgency in Iraq say the Takfiri militants are systematically purging areas under their control from non-Sunnis and everyone against them.
They have told the British media that ISIL militants specifically behead Shias if they cannot swap them with prisoners. The insurgents release Christians and ethnic Kurds in exchange for money. The ISIL is also believed to have formed a database in Mosul to identify those suspected of working for the government. Survivors say people in the city face execution if they don’t repent and pledge allegiance to the ISIL. They say many have already disappeared there. Other reports say the insurgents have blown up the al-Abbas religious site revered by Shia Muslims in Mosul.
