A homeless man is now facing first degree murder charges for allegedly killing a patient that he shared a room with at Aventura Hospital in Florida. The victim, identified as 32-year-old Raul Alexander Rios was found strangled to death in his hospital room in the psychiatric ward.

The suspect, 31-year-old Alexander Jackson was later located in the room’s bathroom. He had been taking a shower.

Rios, who suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, had been in the hospital for two weeks. Shortly after Rios was killed, a housekeeper walked into the room and found him lying face down on the floor.

Cops learned Jackson allegedly told a nurse he had ‘done something wrong’. According to police, he used his hands and a bed sheet to murder the victim. The motive for the killing remains unclear.

The facility has released a statement noting “We reported an incident to law enforcement, and we are assisting in their investigation. We wish to express our heartfelt sympathies to the families of those involved.” Jackson is being held in jail without bond.
