Developers in Dubai are planning to build an underwater theme park called the Pearl of Dubai, that is designed by the people who worked on Avatar and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The park will be the largest underwater tourist attraction on the planet, built to look like an ancient city ruin, taking up a five acre site off the coast of the World Islands development.

Los Angeles based tourism development company, Reef Worlds, is planning to build an underwater theme park called the Pearl of Dubai that will feature designs by the people who worked on the Avatar and Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

The park will be the largest underwater tourist attraction on the planet, and will be built to look like an ancient city ruin on a five acre site off the coast of the World Islands development.

Visitors will be allowed to explore the theme park from the surface by snorkeling, or going deeper into the city with scuba diving gear.

Dave Taylor, director of development for Reef Worlds is quoted as saying: "When one considers Dubai and the region, scuba diving and underwater exploration are not on the top 10 list...We will work with carefully selected resort partners on unique underwater habitat projects that directly support our clients' sustainability and revenue goals.”

There is no word yet on when the Pearl of Dubai theme park will be open for business, but Reef Worlds has also said they are starting another similar project in the Philippines to tap into the estimated three billion dollar global market for snorkeling and scuba diving.
