Two bomb explosions strike near Egypt's presidential palace in the capital Cairo. A police lieutenant colonel and a colonel are confirmed dead and several officers are injured.
According to the Interior Ministry, the first incident occured when a bomb went off in the area. And in the second incident explosives went off when bomb disposal experts were trying to defuse another bomb. It was not immediately clear if President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was at the palace at the time of the bombings. Just a few days ago, militants warned they'd planted explosives near the presidential palace. The fresh violence comes just days ahead of the first anniversary of the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi by the military.
