Suitcase or Coffin: violence at its peak in Central African Republic

When the Seleka offensive began, MSF teams were already firmly established in the country. But were they expecting what was to come? What did they make of the increasing violence and the events taking place? How should they be qualified, and what operational response should be provided? For MSF, the situation was unique: Seeing a country descend into violence before its very eyes, being surround by killings and witnessing an entire community being targeted without being able to provide protection. The situation also raised many questions: Should MSF call for armed intervention? What should the international community be doin? What assistance can MSF provide?
