The Yemeni army has cleared most parts of the international airport in the city of Seiyun from armed militants.
Six militants were killed in the operation. Earlier, gunmen killed three soldiers at the entrance of the airport in the south-east Hadhramaut governorate. They later pushed inside and seized parts of the facility, reportedly damaging the control tower. The airport is also used by the Yemeni air force. The assault came hours after troops arrested a number of militants in the same town. The insurgents have stepped up their attacks against Yemeni forces since an all-out army offensive was launched back in April.
