The world record for the largest haggis was recently broken. It appeared at Scotland's Royal Highland Show, weighing in at just over a ton, which is about double the size of the previous record holder.

The world record for the largest haggis was recently broken. It appeared at Scotland's Royal Highland Show, weighing in at just over a ton, which is about double the size of the previous record holder.

For those who aren’t familiar with haggis, it’s a concoction similar to pudding. Key ingredients include sheep's stomach, heart, liver and even a lung. Oatmeal, stock and numerous spices are added in for flavor.

The record-breaking haggis contains over 15 hundred pounds of pork and pork offal. Roughly 730 pounds of oatmeal was used in addition to 50 pounds of onions and about 85 pounds of seasoning.

The finished dish measured over 8 feet in length and more than 3 feet in width and height. The haggis had to be transported by truck to the show.

It was later cut up in portions and sold. The proceeds from the sales went to the Macmillan Cancer Care and other children's charities. The haggis was prepared and cooked by a team of a dozen staffers at the company, Hall’s.
