31-year-old Alama Kante is a France based professional singer from Guinea who specializes in belting out traditional African songs.
She recently sang through a complicated throat surgery to ensure her vocal cords were kept intact. Kante had to undergo the operation, as a tumor was found in her throat.

She was exceptionally nervous about the procedure because just one slight snip could have caused her to lose her singing voice.

Just prior to the operation, Kante was administered a local anesthetic and hypnotized to dull the pain. Medical experts think this is the first time the singing technique was used during tumor removal efforts.

The lead surgeon, Gilles Dhonneur remarked “The pain of such an operation is intolerable if you are fully awake. Only hypnosis enables you to stand it. She went into a trance listening to the words of the hypnotist. She went a long way away, to Africa. And she began to sing - it was amazing."

She reportedly sang two of her own tracks while the operation was underway. In the end, the tumor was successfully removed and Kante has gone on to make a full recovery with her singing voice just as beautiful as it was before.
