David Renner of Littleton, Colorado was fined 200 dollars by his homeowners’ association.
The violation is for flying a US Betsy Ross flag.
According to association rules, the only acceptable flag that can be flown is the US one and that means the current kind, complete with 50 stars and 13 stripes.
Renner’s Betsy Ross has only 13 stars and 13 stripes, and is thus deemed to be in violation with the rules.
This isn’t the first flag related run-in the man has had with his community’s governing body.
In April he received a warning when he flew a Gadsden flag, an early American design featuring a bright yellow background, a coiled rattlesnake, and the words ‘Don’t Tread on Me’.
Next, a 100-dollar fine was issued to Renner when he chose to display a Colorado flag.
Renner said he plans to fight the penalties under the Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005.
According to it, he says, he can display whichever United States flag he desires.
In the meantime he has no plans to pay the fines or take down what he’s flying when he gets them.
