Ahead of Father's Day, Obama says Congress must help working families

STORY: President Barack Obama used his weekly address to the American public on Saturday (June 14) to tout policies he says are designed to help working families, ahead of Father's Day this Sunday (June 15).

"We've still got too many workplace policies that belong in the 1950s, and it's time to bring them up to date for today's families," Obama said during an internet address.

"Moms and dads deserve affordable child care, time off to care for a sick parent or child without running into hardship. Women deserve equal pay for equal work, and at a time when more women are breadwinners for a family, that benefits men, too," he added.

Obama also called on Congress to "get on the band wagon" and to follow the lead of states that have raised the minimum wage, saying no parent who works full-time "should have to raise a family in poverty".
