In Syria, infighting between rival foreign-backed insurgent groups has left more than 640 people dead since late April.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the fighting between various Takfiri groups has also displaced at least 130,000 people since the end of April. The organization added that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is preventing food and medical supplies from reaching civilian residents in an eastern Syrian city. The al-Qaida-breakaway group has some neighborhoods in Deir el-Zour under siege, preventing the flow of supplies into the city. The I-S-I-L insurgents have besieged several other areas over the course of the three-year conflict with the aim of starving out their opponents. The tactic has been condemned by the United Nations and international human rights groups.
