A luxury home that was situated on a Texas cliff has been intentionally set on fire. Local crews began burning the house today.

In the morning, workers brought bales of hay into the garage along with a container of gasoline.Windows were broken and holes were made in the walls to help the flames spread.

Shortly after, flares were thrown into the gasoline coated garage. Almost right away, smoke and flames broke out of the once-beautiful residence.Roughly 15 minutes after the fire was set, the rear section of the 4,000 square foot house started falling into Lake Whitney which rests just below the cliff.

The problem with the home is that a portion of the bluff it rests on broke off. That left the residence, previously valued at over 700 grand, dangerously close to teetering over the edge.

For the homeowners, Robert and Denise Webb, the whole ordeal is a devastating nightmare. They purchased the house back in 2012 with retirement money and the pair was told by inspectors it was stable.

Their home insurance reportedly does not include earth movement. In addition, the Webb’s are stuck with the demolition and cleanup bills. The couple originally planned on leaving the home to their grandchildren.
