Four men and a dog have reached their goal and completed their 1200-mile walk from Mendoza, Argentina to Porto Alegre, Brazil just in time for the World Cup.

While the scheme was cooked up while knocking back a few at an English pub, the four Brits followed through with the mission they set forth.

The distance they decided upon comes out to 1996 kilometers, a nod to the year their homeland last took the tournament title.

Their larger plan revolves around so much more than home team pride, however.

They also used their journey as a way to raise funds for those in Northeastern Brazil stricken by drought.

From the beginning they’ve began taking donations in hopes of gathering enough money to build a well there, as the areas farming industry has been crippled by the lack of available water.

That part of their initiative has yet to be fully realized, but they did manage to spread joy in another unexpected way.

A dog that followed them from Uruguay to Porto Alegre was reunited with its owner thanks to the media coverage the team received.
