A man in Chile is left seriously injured following a terrifying freak accident inside a faulty elevator. Surveillance footage captured the male later identified as 31-year-old José Vergara Acevedo, in the lift.

Initially everything was calm as he pushed a button for a specific floor inside the Chilean skyscraper. However, mere moments after he entered, it began to malfunction. The doors partially shut and then reopened as the elevator rapidly started moving.

In the short time span of 15 seconds it ascended over 30 floors. Acevedo desperately tried pushing buttons to make the horrific ride stop but unfortunately he had no control.

Once the lift reached the top floor, it crashed into the roof of the structure. The aftermath left Acevedo badly injured. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene to assist.

The victim was quickly transported to the hospital with serious head and leg injuries. The building is new, having been built 8 months ago. Police are currently investigating what caused the elevator to malfunction.
