Liverpool v Swansea - Brendan Rodgers Prematch Interview

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers may use several fringe players for Wednesday's game against Swansea.

Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson will hope to start, while Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard may be rested.

Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm is out for up to eight weeks with a groin injury, so Gerhard Tremmel will deputise at Anfield.

Nathan Dyer and Danny Graham could earn recalls after dropping to the bench for the last two games.

Five months after making the "extremely, extremely difficult" decision to leave Swansea, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers welcomes his former side to Anfield, with a place in the last eight of the League Cup at stake.

The Northern Irishman admitted it was Liverpool's illustrious history that lured him to Merseyside, and part of that history is a remarkable record in this competition.

Last season's penalty shoot-out win against Cardiff was not enough to save Kenny Dalglish's job, but it meant the Reds have now lifted the trophy eight times - three times more than nearest rivals Aston Villa. In contrast, Swansea have never even reached the quarter-finals.
