Clashes turn deadly in Ukraine's Karlovka

Bullets and bloodshed rock eastern Ukraine.

Heavy fighting between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian self-defense forces leave at least two people killed.

Militia sources say the firefight happened at a checkpoint near the rural town of Karlovka - west of Donetsk.

One man who was at a local cafe when the attack happened says he's frustrated with the violence.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) (ROUGH TRANSLATION) IGAR, MUSICIAN NAMED IGAR WHO WAS PLAYING AT THE CAFE DURING THE ATTACK, SAYING:

"I'm a citizen of the Donbass region. I'm not a fool -- I finished school with the highest marks, except in three subjects. But what is now happening in Donbass, for a person who understands politics, I just don't get it."

In Peski, pro-Russian separatists gathered on a roadside dressed in battle fatigues.

One of the fighters described what happened.
