August 21 2005. The fog rolls in over the hills west of Sausalito, california. Cold water rising from the deep ocean off the coast of california causes fog to form. Extreme heat over central california draws air up and in off the ocean every summer afternoon. Most of the fog is drawn in over San Francisco and through the Golden Gate to Berkeley and Oakland, but some spills over the Marin Headlands and into Sausalito.
