According to a study from researchers at the University of Miami, people’s high school grade point average, or GPA, actually correlates with the salary they get from their job as an adult.

Michael T. French, Professor and Director at the Health Economics Research Group at the University of Miami, and corresponding author of the study is quoted as saying: “Conventional wisdom is that academic performance in high school is important for college admission, but this is the first study to clearly demonstrate the link between high school GPA and labor market earnings many years later.”

The results of the study were based on a survey of over 46 hundred men, and over 55 hundred women from the ages of 24 to 34 .

Subjects answered questions about their income, which were then compared to the GPA calculated from their high school transcripts.

Data from the study shows that men earn 12 percent more income and women have a 14 percent higher salary for every single point increase in their GPA.

Another statistic generated by the results of the study says that for both men and women, each single point increase on a person’s high school GPA doubles the chances that they will graduate from college.
