Dutch and British to vote first in European election marathon

It is almost make-your-mind up time in the Netherlands and Britain.

Both vote this Thursday in European Parliament elections, leading the way for the EU’s other 26 member states where citizens will cast their ballots by Sunday at the latest.

People in the Dutch city of Rotterdam gave their views, before the polls opened.

“I always feel like a European,” said one man. “I’m a big fan of Europe… we have much to be grateful for. There is a negative feeling right now and I don’t think that is fair. Many jobs have been created and open borders have been good for us.”

“I will definitely vote,” a woman said. “I think it’s important to be heard because if I don’t vote, I have no right to complain.”

But not everyone was convinced.

“We will see about that,” said one elderly man, when asked if he was going to cast his ballot.
