Marine jailed in Mexico: Andrew Tahmooressi accidentally crossed border with guns

On March 31, 25-year-old Marine Andrew Tahmooressi veteran drove up to the San Ysidro border crossing into Mexico after missing the last freeway exit. He had lived in San Diego for less than a month. As such, he had many of his belongings in his truck, including a .45 calibre handgun, 12-gauge shotgun and AR-15 rifle, all of which are legally registered in the United States.

Tahmooressi explained to Mexican authorities he had accidentally crossed the border and that he was carrying weapons. They decided to detain him and bring weapons charges against him.

Tahmooressi has complained of abuse inside prison and has attempted to escape. In the escape attempt, Tahmooressi climbed a fence and was shot at by a guard.
Following the escape attempt, Tahmooressi, who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, attempted to harm himself with a broken lightbulb.
Tahmooressi have protested at the Mexican consulate in Miami. Meanwhile, more than two dozen American lawmakers have demand a speedy resolution to the case.
