A dramatic and disturbing scene recently unfolded in Brentwood, New Hampshire. On May 12th, a house exploded shortly after a police officer was fatally shot.

At about 4 in the afternoon, local police received a call pertaining to a domestic dispute at the residence. Officers immediately responded to the home, including 48-year-old Steve Arkell.

Sadly, when he entered the house, he was shot by an occupant inside, 47-year-old Michael Nolan who is reportedly the homeowner’s son. Moments after shots broke out, the house exploded, rocking it to its foundation.

Heavy flames immediately erupted. Michael Nolan, the alleged shooter, was killed by either the explosion or the fire.

His father, 86-year-old Walter Nolan survived and was taken out of the house on a stretcher, according to neighbors. Police say the two men were arguing in the home prior to the shooting and blast.

Arkell was flown to a nearby hospital but he was soon pronounced dead. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.

The Attorney General's office is now investigating the case. At this point, no one is sure what caused the explosion.
