Nine students in Greenville, Michigan certainly didn’t see anything coming when they were all struck by lightning. Three of those students were injured.

The lightning struck the school called Grattan Academy at approximately 8 in the morning. The three injured adolescents, all girls, are in eighth grade.

Cazzie Barr and Meghann Ferrall had been leaning against their lockers when they were hit. After hearing a sound which Ferrall described as a ‘firework pop’, they immediately felt a burning sensation on their backs.

The third girl, Alicia Miller, had been in the bathroom when she was struck. She had just touched a sink faucet when she felt numbness and tingling in her arm and knew something was wrong.

The parents of the three girls were notified and subsequently sought medical attention for their kids. The other students who were hit did not require treatment.

It wasn’t immediately clear where the building was struck as there was no evident damage to one particular area. Some of the electrical systems were wiped out, but the school never lost power entirely.

School staffers are considering installing a lightning rod on the building, to prevent future, similar incidents.
