Thai anti-government protesters move closer to a 'people's council' as political deadlock continues

The political crisis in Thailand continues into its seventh month with anti-government protesters now occupying Government House, the compound of the former prime minister.
The “Yellow Shirts” took time out to mark the birthday of Buddha and believe they are now closer to achieving their goal:
“Government supporters are on the back foot. They disagree with the idea of a neutral prime minister. But we must have reforms before an election.”
A Thai court dismissed Prime Minster Yingluck Shinawatra last week for abuse of power and a caretaker government has been installed to pave the way for elections in July.
The anti-government camp wants a “people’s council” to run the country while political reforms are drafted with an election to follow.
Government supporters, the “Red Shirts,” say the call is undemocratic.
So far 20 people have been killed in the protests and authorities fear more violence if a solution to the crisis is not found.
