Supporters of Yingluck Shinawatra have gathered in Bangkok to protest against her dismissal as prime minister for negligence.
The supporters of Yingluck and her brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin, want the interim government to press ahead with elections penciled in for July 20:
“We are protesting against a government that is not elected. We will protest against any kind of coup. We don’t want anything illegitimate in this country,” said one “red shirt.”
As the “red shirts” congregated a counter protest set up by the anti-government “yellow shirts” rallied across town to call for reforms before a fresh election takes place.
The anti-government protesters want a people’s council to run the country while reforms are set in place ahead of a new poll.
Twenty-five people have been killed since demonstrations broke out last November.
Authorities have called on both sets of supporters to avoid further confrontation.
