Heavy gunfire rocks eastern Ukrainian city of Mariupol

Heavy fighting in the eastern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol left numerous people dead on Friday (May 9), according to multiple reports.

One video from the city showed an unknown militant firing a rocket-propelled grenade on the street.

Ukrainian forces brought several armored vehicles into the town, where a member of Ukraine's parliament said forces attacked the police headquarters in an attempt to drive out pro-Russian militants. The police building caught fire.

The country's interior minister said about 20 people were killed in the city's clashes.

Mariupol is a major industrial center with a population of about half a million.
