STORY: Israeli riot police scuffled with Palestinians outside one of Jerusalem's most revered and politically sensitive religious compounds on Tuesday, after preventing them from entering the mosque.

Israel imposed age restrictions on Muslims entering Al-Aqsa mosque, as the Jewish state celebrates it's 66th Independence day, denying men or women under 50 years of age access to the mosque.

Israeli police in riot gear used stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators outside the complex.

A police spokeswoman said two Palestinians were arrested. According to Palestinian paramedics, 15 were wounded.

Tensions at the site run high during holidays.
