Reaction in Egypt to the first television interview of former Defence Minister and front-runner in the upcoming presidential elections Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi appears to have been positive.

Speaking on satellite news channels on Monday night, he took a hard line on a reconciliation with the Muslim Brotherhood and said he would not allow himself be influenced by any forces during his presidency.

Cairo resident Samir Gouda Mohamed said he was pleased that “al-Sisi focused on stability, security and the economy. They are important issues for all Egyptians because they permit everyone to live a dignified life.”

The Muslim Brotherhood has said it is committed to peaceful activism. It has accused al-Sisi of staging a coup and masterminding the removal of the freely elected Mohamed Mursi.
