The White House released a federal report that climate change is happening, and its harmful effects are already being felt.

It states, “Climate change, once considered an issue for a distant future, has moved firmly into the present.”

Climate change is not a distant threat. It is affecting the American people already. On the whole, summers are longer and hotter with longer periods of extended heat. Wildfires start earlier in the Spring and continue later into the fall. Rain comes down in heavier downpours. People are experiencing changes in the length and severity of seasonal allergies.

The catalyst named as likely being most responsible for bringing about the often-disastrous conditions to date is the burning of fossil fuels.

Coal, oil and gas all release emissions that lead to heat trapping due to the amount of carbon dioxide and methane they introduce into the environment.

The report was put together by hundreds of leading scientists, scholars, and experts from both the government and private citizens.

Their findings echo those that were published recently by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
