U.S. President Barack Obama visited the National War Memorial in Seoul on Friday (April 25) to pay tribute to fighters who sacrificed their lives in the Korean War.
Obama offered a wreath and paid silent prayer in front of a roll of the honor.
During the 1950-53 Korean War, the United States rallied the United Nations to send troops to counter the North's invasion of the South backed by Soviet forces. More than 36,000 Americans died in the war.
North and South Koreas are still technically at war since the Korean War ended in a truce without a peace treaty.
Obama arrived in Seoul on Friday for a two-day state visit in which he will seek to reassure South Korea that he is committed to pressuring Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
