School life can be dangerous for many pupils in the UK. In a shocking report, figures unearthed by Sky News revealed a worrying trend of young people arming themselves whilst at school.
981 children had weapons confiscated on school premises 36 were found with an assortment of guns 329 were charged, including those found with an axe and a cut-throat razor. Meshak Taylor is a primary school teacher and youth mentor and explains why a young person might bring a weapon to school. Research has proven that the child immediate environment has such a big role to play in determining a positive outcome. Young people's groups, charities and so on who do work in ensuring that those who are at risk do not fall deeper into trouble have always advocated a joined up approach to ensuring their future success - for example, ensuring that it's not just the child who is dealt with at an individual level but their immediate environment is also addressed. The government has said its given schools more powers to clamp down on students breaking the law and is putting more resources into preventing the students acquiring weapons in the first place.
