Karachi: Senior police officer among 4 killed in blast

KARACHI: At least four people including former SHO Shafiq Tanoli were killed and over 15 injured in a heavy explosion near old Sabzi Mandi area, ARY News reported.

The nature of the blast could not be determined as yet. Tanoli had survived a bomb blast some days ago, wherein more than five people were slain.

The latest incident occurred within the jurisdiction of PIB Police Station.

The explosion went off near the residence of Shafiq Tanoli, who was said to be a potential target of terrorists.

Rescue and security teams reached the spot. Police cordoned off the area to collect evidences from the spot.

The explosion was so loud that it was heard to a long distance.

Slain former SHO of Mawach Goth, was demoted and suspended from his post recently after he allegedly carried out an illegal raid in Clifton area.

On December 20, 2013, Tanoli had survived a assassination attempt. A suicide bomber approached his vehicle near his residence in Old Sabzi Mandi when Tanoli sensed the danger and quickly jumped off his vehicle, thus saving his life.
