The most decorated swimmer of all time -- Michael Phelps -- is coming out of retirement, and spoke during a press conference in Mesa, Arizona.

After "having fun" during a swimming hiatus, Phelps said he gained 30 pounds but admits "there was something that I missed."

"Being able to be back in the pool... it's incredible," Phelps said.

The American, who has not competed since the 2012 London Games, will headline an April 24-26 meet in Mesa, Arizona, with fellow Olympians Ryan Lochte and Katie Ledecky.

"I'm signing - not that I know of - any contracts. I'm doing this because I want to. Nobody's forcing me to do this or that. I'm doing this because I want to."

Already the most decorated Olympian of all time, Phelps rejoined the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency's drug testing programme last November offering the first hint that he was considering a return to the pool in a bid for more Olympic gold.
