For over two-hundred years, the National Library of Chile has grown to be one of the largest libraries in Latin America.
The National Library of Chile was built in 1813 and celebrated its two-hundredth anniversary last year. The building was originally smaller with only eight-thousand books. It now has more than one and a half million books stored in the neo-classical style building. The library moved to its present location in Santiago in 19-25. It also has a scanning system for old books to digitalize valuable documents for future generations. The library holds many exhibitions of its special collections.
