The United States Navy has spent a reported three billion dollars to develop and build the largest stealth destroyer vessel in it’s fleet, which they named the USS Zumwalt after Admiral Elmo Zumwalt.
The Zumwalt is fueled by carbon dioxide and hydrogen that it harvests from ocean water.
The Navy has plans to equip the vessel with top of the line weapons like a drone targeting laser and an electromagnetic rail gun that fires a projectile at seven and half times the speed of sound and has a range of 125 miles.
It is 50 times harder to spot than other destroyers and appears to be a fishing vessel to enemy radar.
It's the first of three vessels in its class that the Navy plans to build that can function with only half of the crew currently used on destroyers.
The Zumwalt is capable of carrying several helicopters and unmanned aerial drones onboard.
Admiral Zumwalt’s two daughters christened the boat at Maine’s Bath Iron Works.
One of the daughters, Ann Zumwalt, is quoted as saying: “I know my father would be deeply moved by the majesty of the vessel we see before us. He would be humbled that it bears his name.”
