A 23-year-old Iowa City man was arrested after crashing his car, smashing his head open in a police car, getting naked in a hospital, then attacking a police officer, sans pants, very early Tuesday morning.

Matthew Roberts ran into a guardrail on Highway 380 at the four mile marker. According to a police report, Roberts took off on foot, ran through a field, then tried to hitchhike away. Police found his car and discovered a bottle of Seagram's 7 spilled inside, as well as an open beer car. When they finally caught up with Roberts, they gave him a breathalyzer test and he registered .173 blood-alcohol content. In Iowa state, anything above .08 is considered driving under the influence.

The police got Roberts into a squad car where he proceeded to head butt the car cage until he split his head open. Then he smeared the backseat with his blood.

Roberts was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals to get stitched up and while he was waiting in the emergency room waiting area, he took off his trousers and made a scene. After being discharged from the hospital, he refused to put his pants back on and attacked a police officer while naked. Twice.

Roberts was booked into the Johnson County Jail around 7:30 Tuesday morning. He has been charged with interference of official acts, a misdemeanor, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Roberts pleaded guilty to another drunk driving offense in May 2011.

Police present during the incident reported, 'Mr. Roberts was uncooperative the entire time.'
