Italian woman's baby taken from the womb by UK Social Services

After an Italian woman suffered a mental breakdown during a meeting in the UK this past July, officials from Social Services ordered an emergency C-Section be done to deliver the baby and take her from her mother.

The woman was attending a work-related seminar in Essex, when she had a panic attack. The paramedics were called and took her to the nearest hospital. When she recovered, she wanted to return to her hotel, but was detained and sedated instead.

Some 2 weeks later someone from Social Services acquired a High Court order to have the baby prematurely delivered. She was further sedated and the procedure commenced without her knowledge, due to her drugged state. When she awoke, she found that her baby had been taken against her will.

"Brendan Fleming, her lawyer says, 'I have never heard of anything like this in all my 40 years in the job. I can understand if someone is very ill that they may not be able to consent to a medical procedure, but a forced caesarean is unprecedented.'
The case is certainly raising questions on the powers of Britain's secret courts and Social Services division.
